suzanne collins is such a genius... the cultural phenomena of her series leading to the hanging tree house remixes, mockingjay being milked for two (bad) movies, the capitol-inspired makeup palettes, the halloween costumes, the explosion of the market for dystopia, the butchering of her characters and removal of disabilities, disfiguration, and racial tension + representation to sell more tickets, the extra gale scenes to fuel discourse, and the audience showing up to cinemas to watch what was pretty honestly marketed to them (the jacob vs edwardification of the symbolic love story and also to watch children fight to the death) it's just so ridiculously ironic i would say you can't write this shit, but she did write about it... in The Hunger Games published 2008
Criticizing the science behind Jurassic park (specifically the novel) is like criticizing the science in Frankenstein. Yes, these dinosaurs not actually being venomous or velociraptors actually being the size of a turkey is definitely the point, definitely not the fact that an industrialist leased islands from the Costa Rican government and cut corners for profit that not only lead to his own doom, but also allowed dangerous assets to escape to the mainland and kill Costa Rican citizens and destroy their crops.
When you try to outsmart an author by “um actually”ing instead of understanding the purpose behind their story is actually pretty anti intellectual in my opinion
Sometimes you gotta think about what purpose being wrong is. Dinosaurs being larger or being venomous unlike their real word counterparts serves a horror story about abusing science and nature for capitalistic gains bc they are man made monsters. Making some dinos bigger, badder, and smarter was done purposely.
Sometimes author is wrong to service the narrative or create one. This also goes for understanding propaganda. Understanding why something is wrong is more complex than being smarter bc often propaganda is false on purpose. It’s not what is wrong it’s why is it wrong is what I’m saying.
Every time someone says "ingredients" I say "ingredience" in response and then I realize I just sound like I repeated them because it sounds the fucking same out loud
me when i say inch resting
nuance enjoyers are always sparking controversy by saying things like "hey guys what if we considered some factors" because this is often interpreted as "let's disregard absolutely everything except what I'm specifically highlighting right now in this online post." Nothing to be done
